Playa Del Carmen and the Acanto hotel

Your place by the pool

The Acanto Hotel, is in a perfect central location, in the buzzing Mayan Riviera resort of Playa Del Carmen. Just a few yards away from the main street Avenida Quinta, where there is a huge choice of shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment, the Acanto is a quiet haven tucked away down a side street on the way to the beach.
There is a choice of luxury suites plus a rooftop penthouse which has its own outside terrace and barbecue and views out over to the beach and the Caribbean sea.

The Acanto Condominium Hotel in Playa Del Carmen was the final destination on our Central American adventure. This hacienda style hotel is super close to the beach but is built around a charming enclosed courtyard, so it remains private and peaceful surrounded by its own tropical gardens. It has a swimming pool and sun deck with lounge chairs. You can use the hotel towels here, or take them to the beach for a small deposit. The hotel is quite new and there are still plans for further expansion to include a gym. There is a car park available underground and all the suites are spacious, with bedrooms, seating and kitchen areas, and the Acanto can accommodate large parties if required. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant but Acanto staff can hire in a professional chef for you, if you need to cater for a number of people.

Relax in a suite at the Acanto

The apartments here are also for sale and if you purchase one, Acanto Hotel staff can help to rent it out for you. There are already happy owners from the USA, Mexico and New Zealand enjoying a luxury property here in Playa Del Carmen.
There are fully equipped 1, 2 and 3 bedroom  private accommodations with all the comforts of home and Acanto is pretty much the most popular condo hotel in town. The rooms are furnished in a modern style and include King, Queen or Twin beds, marble bathrooms and have marble floors. There are granite kitchens with state of the art appliances, central air conditioning, ceiling fans, security safe, plasma TV, your own terrace, and views out into the courtyard garden.

There is a complimentary continental breakfast on offer too so you can sit in the sunny courtyard in the morning, and have your coffee, toast and eggs while you contemplate your day ahead in paradise.
For dinner, we sampled the Parilla Mexican restaurant just around the corner which was recommended by the hotel, and I had a delicious spicy chicken dish. We also tried the local Margaritas which is of course a fairly compulsory activity when in Mexico.

The beautiful white sandy beach and stunning blue Caribbean sea is a huge attraction here. When you get off the plane from the grey UK, and first see the purity of the white sand against the vibrant blue sea and sky, it is a sight guaranteed to gladden the heart.

Beach life at Playa Del Carmen

If you want to explore further afield from Playa Del Carmen there are lots of attractions and day trips available too. There’s snorkeling and diving, or you can get the ferry across to the island of Cozumel which is also a big diving destination. The other main attractions here are the amazing Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba which are definitely worth a visit. They do get very busy so it’s best to go early, or try visiting in the low season when everything is cheaper and there are less people about.

Mayan culture on show

The Acanto Hotel is an ideal place to stay in the sunny busy holiday idyll of Playa Del Carmen. A great location right in the middle of everything, but still private and very comfortable. Playa has now become the most popular destination on the on the Riviera Maya and it’s easy to see why, as this thriving resort has everything you could wish for for a fabulous sunshine holiday on the Caribbean coast.
