No 10 in Preston – luxury sleeping in the city

Come on in to No 10!

Preston in the North West of England, may seem an unlikely place for a tourist visit, but things are looking up in this neck of the woods. The No 10 luxury apart hotel in Preston, owned by Walkerwilliams and the city’s first 5 star residence is a great example of that. No 10 is a small boutique apart hotel created from a refurbished former office block in the city centre.  Access is from a small side street through the rather trendy office (there is grass on the ceiling) which was a hairdressers in a former life. No 10 opened in May and has been super busy ever since – there is obviously a need for this kind of facility here.

The Polo room

Walkerwilliams is a small, independent and family owned and run business, established to offer all the comforts and facilities that come with staying in a 1st class apartment with the services of a luxury boutique hotel. Each of the five apartments has its own theme, the 007 room, the Hunt, the Chelsea, the Tiffany and the Polo. Each has a small high spec kitchenette and luxury bathroom with Molton Brown products. The company are very keen to pay attention to detail and know that customers value great service too.

The Hunt room!

Preston was recently voted the 12th best place to live and work in by Sarah Beeny and her team on her recent Channel 4 program Uk’s best place to live. This is pretty impressive when you consider there are 1067 towns and cities in England alone. Further more South Ribble was voted the best place to live in the U.K. The Programme looked at many different variables, such as quality of available schools, average house prices, job opportunities average incomes to come to this conclusion.

Put the kettle on!

Another random Preston fact is that it was home to the very first KFC to open outside of North America! The Colonel opened his doors here in May 1965 and was in fact the first American style fast food store in the U.K. even beating McDonald’s to the punch! The store will shortly be closing it’s doors for good, so if you want to eat in the first fast food store in the country, you need to get down there soon!

Chicken lickin’ good!

Did you know that the first motorway network in the U.K. is in Preston? In 1958 the motorway opened and less than one week after opening the road was jammed with traffic reportedly moving at 2-3mph! Setting the modern trend for motorways all over the country.

Preston has a very unique football club. The  Preston North End Football Club has claim to be the true home of football. The Preston North End stadium in Deepdale is the oldest continuously running football club in the entire world! In 1889 Preston North End won the League and the FA Cup the first team to win the double and not lose a single game all season. They won the final of the FA Cup an astonishing 26-0 the biggest win in English football history. I’ll bet that was an interesting game.

The No 10 hotel has super comfy Hypnos Mattresses and sweets in a jar next to the bed. They are decorated in lovely muted Farrow and Ball paint colours and Ross the hotel manager is very keen to listen to and respond to any feedback from guests.
It’s quirky, fresh and imaginative – not everyone wants to stay in a cookie cutter Travelodge or Premier Inn. If you are in the area why not pop in for a spot of shopping on Fishergate and a warm welcome awaits just around the corner at No 10 luxury apart hotel.
