Glamping in Northumberland
Winter at the Treehouse

Woodland Chase Glamping with a hot tub

Experience a luxury rural escape in the beauty of the Northumbrian countryside at Woodland Chase glamping in Felton, Northumberland. This delightful Treehouse is to be my home for the next two nights. Let’s go luxury glamping in Northumberland with a hot tub!

As we approach the cabin in the trees up the path through the crunching snow, the twinkling lights curled around the balcony at the top of the spiral staircase become visible. Gradually the interior lights of our weekend retreat reveal themselves. A real Narnia moment. This is not the basic tree house of childhood memories, but an adorable fully fitted luxury cabin complete with all mod cons. And, most importantly during this winter season, it has under floor heating!

Home from home – inside the Treehouse

Inside the Treehouse

Overlooking the family farm, the Treehouse is finished to the highest specification. It has lovely wooden interior features, a kitchen with hob and oven, a warm bedroom and a really good hot shower in the lovely bathroom.  The bed, hand made in Wales, is also extremely comfortable. There’s a velux window in the roof where you can watch the sky as you recline in comfort. It’s very very quiet here too which makes for a great night’s sleep.

The cabin features local produce from the nearby Running Fox bakery, and locally produced Bari teas and Pilgrims Coffee. there’s a courtesy hamper of goods and courtesy breakfast items of bread, butter and milk.

Cosy in the Treehouse

Great attention to detail is shown, from the tree fashioned into a coat rack, to the best Bose speaker and wooden features made from recycled farm materials. There is an extremely comprehensive instruction booklet for all the fires and the lights and electrical items. If I’d bothered to read it would have made things a lot easier!

Keep calm and keep spelling!

There are lots of board games here too, everything from Jenga to Scrabble. Without the distraction of the TV screen, it’s fun to get the old brain cells fired up for a change!

Sheer luxury

There is fabulous hot tub on the deck of the Treehouse. The goal was to slide into the hot water with glass of fizz, cosy despite our snowy surroundings. We set about building a fire with gusto, tending it on a strict 25 minute rota and piling in the logs for a good three hours. By this time the water was really hot and I had no difficulty sliding in despite the freezing outside temperature. We soaked in the tub, drinking fizz for a quite some time. Great fun!

Woodland Chase Farm is an arable and sheep farm, and has been in Neil’s family for more than a hundred years. Like so many working in agriculture, the Campbells have had to diversify their businesses to make a living

A family Affair

The whole family have played a part in making Woodland Chase a top glamping getaway. Everyone has been involved from choosing which lighting fixtures to fit above the breakfast bar in the Treehouse to designing the logo. The glamping cabins are Jilly’s baby and she designed them, and chose the furnishings. I love a teal Chesterfield.

Gorgeous interiors

The whole enterprise is a real family concern. Neil, Jilly’s husband, runs the farm and we see him heading out across the field to feed the sheep after a terribly cold snowy night. The sheep are so still in the morning that I am sure they have frozen solid.  Jilly’s mum and Dad live on the same site in the warden’s house, and her Dad is in charge of wood supplies. Even her daughter Jasmine is involved – looking after the Instagram account.

Be a fire starter!

There are three opportunities to play with fire at the Treehouse. First the woodburner in the cabin, an essential. The outside fire pit for barbeques is the second and the biggest fire is required to heat up the water in the hot tub! There was a lot of fire building and stoking over the weekend which I thoroughly enjoyed.

You may even get to see the Northern Lights across the horizon. It’s  real dark skies country here and Jilly was able to capture this special phenomenon on the evening I arrive.

Dog friendly glamping with a hot tub!

The cabins are for adults only but babes in arms are welcome. It’s an ideal venue for glamping with a hot tub for two. There is one dog friendly space in Crofter’s Cabin though which is on site but not in the Treehouse. There are lots of country paths around about suitable for dog walking and your dog may well enjoy it’s break as much as you will!

Robson Green goes glamping with a hot tub

Robson Green is a proud Northumberland resident and in his new series Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes celebrates the beauty and attractions of his beloved North East. He visited our lovely Treehouse at Woodland Chase Glamping in July 2023 and was welcomed by Jilly and her family. Woodland Chase and the Treehouse appear in episode 14 of 15 in the new series and will be broadcast on BBC in early 2024.

Yes reader, I have slept in the same bed as Robson Green. Just not at the same time.

Woodlands Chase glamping in Northumberland

Woodland Chase glamping is easy to access and is only a few minutes away from the main A1. Jilly has never run a business before so it’s been a steep learning curve for her. However, this kind of high end staycation is in increasing demand.  If you are looking for a place to go glamping with a hot tub in the North East this could be the destination for you.  It’s not only an oasis of luxury in a beautiful landscape but also a great base to explore the area. The delights of our least populated county – Northumberland – are many and varied. We have stunning coastlines and castles. Not to mention Hadrian’s Wall and all its heritage.

This is a real get away from it all destination, without the crowds of Scotland or the Lake District. If you fancy some luxury glamping with a hot tub then Woodland Chase should be on your short break list without a doubt. Book your stay here with  ToWanderUK
