The clock is ticking for people to get tickets secured for the ultimate end of summer party as Lindisfarne Festival 2022 approaches.
Crowds are preparing to go crazy with bona fide music legends Madness and multi-award-winning drum and bass outfit Rudimental headlining the much-loved camping festival. It will once again pitch up in glorious style on the Northumberland coast, from September 1-4.
The 7th Lindisfarne Festival will see thousands of music fans descend upon one of the UK’s most stunning festival settings. Overlooking the majestic Holy Island from its Beal Farm site.
Little Lindi Festival
Organisers have only just had time to catch their breath following a storming debut for their new family festival, Little Lindi, which welcomed around 5,000 people to the Lambton Estate in County Durham during the first weekend of the summer holidays.
But now, their attention is firmly focused on the last weekend of the summer break and making this year’s Lindisfarne Festival the best one yet.
Festival founder, Conleth Maenpaa, said: “The countdown has begun to this year’s Lindisfarne Festival and we couldn’t be more excited to see everyone arriving once again for a weekend of good times to remember forever.”
History of the Lindisfarne festival
Small but beautifully formed, the independent festival has been growing in popularity year on year since its debut in 2015 and has built a reputation for being the perfect way to see the summer out in style for grown-ups (the event is strictly over 18s only).
“I still haven’t quite got my head around the fact that we’ve got both Madness and Rudimental headlining,” added Conleth.
“Every year, it’s our ambition to build on our success and take things up another gear, and with these two acts, we’ve definitely done that. I cannot wait to see the Lindisfarne crowds going crazy for them.”
It’s all Madness
More than four decades after their first gig, Madness are a bit of a musical institution with a catalogue of songs sparkling about the stuff of British life, including Baggy Trousers, It Must Be Love, House of Fun, Driving in My Car and One Step Beyond.
Led by the inimitable Suggs, memorable Madness performances at both the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert and the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony confirmed their status as cast-iron national treasures.

Speaking of their headline slot at Lindisfarne Festival, Suggs, said: “There are not many places in the UK we haven’t been to but Lindisfarne is one of them.
“It survived the Vikings and now we hope to conquer the east coast with unbridled joy.”
Fellow headliners are Rudimental, the Brit and MOBO award-winning drum and bass collective who have been a constant source of banging tunes since their first single, Feel The Love topped the charts in 2012.

Madness and Rudimental also appear continuing the Festival’s reputation for bringing together a melting pot of musical genres. There is something for everyone lucky enough to bag themselves a ticket.
Festival namesakes and North East legends, Lindisfarne are among the 200+ musicians and performing artists who will be taking to the Festival’s 10 distinct stages alongside the likes of Smoove and Turrell, and Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5. Other bands you may or may not have heard of include The Allergies, Bass Generator, K-Klass and Millie Manders and The Shutup.
Alongside the music, there will be a diverse programme of creative workshops, stand-up comedy, spoken word, yoga and holistic therapies. Glamping packages for those who like a bit of luxury woven into their festival experience are also available.

Lindisfarne Festival 2021
Lindisfarne was my very first music festival and I was not sure what to expect. The setting at Beal Farm overlooking the causeway and the magical Holy Island was one of the things that attracted me to this event. The festival nestles amid golden harvested cornfields. The village of multi coloured tents, flags, campervans and yurts for hire is the first thing you see before you enter the performance area.
Lindisfarne Festival is known for an atmosphere which matches the majesty of its surroundings. This is a very special weekend on the Northumberland events calendar. The headline acts were pretty impressive. Dizzee Rascal and Groove Armada topped the bill on Friday and Saturday respectively in the Shorefields marquee. Colonel Mustard + DS and The Destroyers are also a lively lot. I did catch the Lancashire Hotpots. whose flatcaps and Lancashire accents gave the game away somewhat.
Music galore!
There are many bands (most of which I admit I had never heard of) but there is definitely something to cater for every taste. More than 200 acts performed across ten stages including Viking, Dingle Del and Shanti Bee. Other activities included comedy, DJs, drumming workshops, Zumba and forest yoga..
After the grim lockdown of of the past couple of years everyone was very much in a party mood. A mood which remained up beat and super friendly throughout the whole event. Over 7,000 people attended this quirky event and I’m pretty sure they all had a great time.
I hadn’t realised how much dressing up there would be! Everywhere you look there are Vikings, pirates, mermaids, and for some reason a lot of Super Mario bothers. There were surgeons and people with disco balls on their head, squid, unicorns and jellyfish umbrellas. Drag acts and street performers parade among the crowd. Lots of coloured lights on capes and headwear are always a winner, especially as darkness descends.
Lindisfarne festival – Fire and festivity
I absolutely loved Pyro Celtica who were spinning fire in more dangerous ways than you can think and they even brought their own giant fire breathing dragon! Hot marshmallows on sticks scorched by the dragon’s breath serving now! A nice touch.
We danced to disco in Delta City (not to be confused with the Delta variant) and reggaed in Shanti Bee. There were customised cars to climb on, painted pallets and hay bales to rest on. There is a small forest to stand in and lots of cool chill out zone ideas. I thought the lighting design and decorations inside the tents were brilliant. Who doesn’t want to collapse onto a sofa in the loungevity area watching dancers gyrate to cool vibes. A large blue mermaid decided to rest her trident and read a book there for a while..
Giant mushroom lights and psychedelic projections provide sensory overload in the Dingle Del. Everything looks more magical in the dark, and the music throbbed on until well after 4am. Many people were high on a variety of substances. I like to think they were just being high on freedom!
Cool and Celtic
This is a quirky eclectic festival, not too big, and with a cool Celtic, Pagan vibe. The organisation for these kind of events is really impressive and there were even plenty of Portaloos!
My attempt at camping was ill advised however. I borrowed a small tent (thank you Mandy!) and a camping bed. The bed didn’t actually fit into the tent so I couldn’t zip it up. I didn’t even have a proper sleeping bag. My quilt off the bed did not cut the msutard, so I was not well prepared and got pretty much no sleep. This will have to be rectified if I ever decide to go festivalling again..
