Romania Black Sea coast

The Black Sea and its fabled coastline have always piqued my curiosity.

Firstly the Black Sea is not black. Its a very nice colour in fact and is fine for swimming and all water related activities. The name probably refers to its northern location and means ‘Northern Sea.’ It is a landlocked sea connected narrowly to the Mediterranean through the Bosphorus Sea Straits. Romania has its own slice of the coast of this Black Sea and is determined to make the most of it.

Biarritz and the St Julien hotel

Sometimes places you have never visited occupy a corner of your mind for some unspecified reason. For me, Biarritz was one of those.

Biarritz is the epitome of French seaside elegance and joie de vivre.  It is chic, wealthy and beautiful. I got the chance to spend a couple of days there on my way home, and it really didn’t disappoint

Located on the picturesque south-western coast of France, Biarritz combines natural beauty with elegant architecture, and rich cultural heritage. It is part of the Basque Country, and this enchanting destination has long been a favourite among travellers seeking a dose of sophisticated relaxation.

Dubai Desert Adventure

What comes to mind when you think of Dubai? Shiny high rise hotels or perhaps extravagant shopping malls with giant aquariums?  Maybe the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, or palm-shaped man made islands reclaimed from the sea. But there is another side to the story of Dubai.  I travel to the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) with Biosphere Expeditions to discover more about it.

The NH Hotel group is a Spanish multinational hotel company. They operate 350 hotels in 35 countries and the NH Collection is their first hotel in the buzzing metropolis of Dubai in the UAE. This beautiful brand new hotel, situated in the middle of the Palm Jumeirah, has just celebrated its first birthday. The NH Collection group strap line is ‘outstanding stays in exceptional locations’ and this lovely hotel in the beating heart of Dubai certainly qualifies for this description.

2023 travel – where I went

2023 was a year of travel and exploration for me and I visited new countries and new places in the UK. I made new contacts and new friends. The travel community is really pretty special.

I began with a January trip to Rancho Las Cascadas, the luxury horse riding ranch in the Sierra Madre Mountains, Mexico which is my happy place. Gorgeous horses, gorgeous people, sunshine and the very best in Mexican hospitality make this my go to winter destination…
